Wishing for Neverland

Growing Up is Hard to Do

Does anyone else look at their schedule and have a total Peter Pan moment? I do. Sometimes when I look at my to-do lists and try to schedule my prior commitments, I question why I ever wanted to grow up.

It's tough. Your freedoms grow- whoo hoo drivers licensee and no curfew!- but so do your responsibilities-  ie. car insurance and work in the morning.

Lately, my calendar is filling up FAST. I just had to schedule a date night over a month out. What? Craziness.

But, while my schedule is all kinds of crazy and I sometimes find myself wanting to vacation in Neverland- growing up does have its perks.

The expanded freedoms means expanded options. (And I love to have my options.)

Now, you get to be the sole decider in what you learn. No more mindless hours of homework or stressful nights of cramming your brain full of information that you may or may not use. One of our friends decided he wanted to learn foreign languages while he drives to and from work. He is now conversationally fluent in Mandrin Chinese and is working on Arabic. How cool is that?

My fiance wants to learn more about technology and computer coding, (things I know very little about) so he often reads up on those things.

My brother wants to learn more about design, and he constantly amazes me with what he can do on the computer.

I want to learn more about writing and blogging, so I am reading up on those subjects. I have always felt life like a story, but there are definitely tips and tricks to effective story telling.

Choosing your roommates is another fun perk of adulthood. One of my college roommates is renting a house with some girl friends, and another one them is taking some much needed breating time, and rents and adorable loft. And I am about to be living with my best friend in a tiny little apartment! Yay! I think our bed might take up the entire bedroom. Oh well. There are worse things.

So, while I occasionally love the idea of donning my tinkerbell wings (like in the above picture. It was for a costume party at Kanakuk. And the sweet little pirate is my lovely scousin [sister + cousin] Sadie.)  I can appreciate adulthood.

And growing up means more life milestones to celebrate!

Speaking of... I am helping throw a wedding shower for one of my dear friends tonight.

Time to go celebrate! I'll get back to that grown-up to-do list later...
