Curly Girl

Today is a SNOW DAY!

Which means, that it is also a Curly Hair Day.

It looks like a winter wonderland outside! I know, Debbie Downers, that you can still see grass poking through the snow, but when you live in the southern half of the country, you take what you can get.

In the Fisher sisters' world, a snow day not only means that you'd rather be sitting on the couch, reading a good book, and drinking hot coffee in your sweatpants than going to work, but it also means that you decided to wear your hair curly. Wet precipitation means curly hair. We aren't complaining about our curly locks; they can be quite convenient at times. But there is definitely some tricks of the trade that can help transform frizzy craziness into beach waves or ringlets. Here is our system for taming the beast:
Step One: Use shampoo and conditioner made for curly hair. I don't know why it matters, but it does. Take it from me, the magic inside your curly hair products matter. This is one of our favorite kinds.

Step Two: After you are done washing your hair, flip your head over and finger comb your hair. You do not want to brush your hair when you get out of the shower, because this leads to frizz, but you also don't want tons of tangles.

Step Three: Scrunch your hair with your hands by grabbing the hair from the end and pushing it up towards the roots.

Step Four: Scrunch your hair with your towel. Do the same motion as step three, but this time use your towel. This will soak up some of the drips and keep the water from running down your back.

Step Five: Product time! We use a combination of things to tame the beast. The first product we use is mousse. Our favorite brand is Fresh Curls by Redken.

Step Six: Time to twist. To encourage our hair to curl we twist pieces in the direction they already seem to be curling with Bed Head Foxy Curls Contour Creme.

Step Seven: Let your hair air dry some. I know, this part can be the hardest because it takes patience. We suggest doing your make-up during this time, because by the time you're done- approximately 15 minutes later- you'll be ready for the next step.

Step Eight: Lightly scrunch your hair with Redken Fresh Curls Curl Refiner. This will keep your hair from being crunchy or frizzy.

Step Nine: Diffuse. Attach your diffuser to the end of your blow dryer and hit up one section at a time. Use the diffuser to push your hair up, and hold it against your scalp. We suggest holding the diffuser on your hair for about 10 seconds per section.

Step Ten: Hit up a few pieces with a small curling iron. It's a given that not every piece will bend to your will, and sometimes you need to help those stubborn pieces along. Now, it is important to refrain from curling every piece. If you use the curling iron on too many pieces, your hair will no longer look naturally curly.

And there you go! Perfectly curly hair. People will probably stop you and ask if your hair is naturally curly, and the answer is of course- "yes." They don't need to know all of the steps you took to make your hair look that way. And your hair is naturally curly... you simply improved on your hair's natural state.

Also, if you are short on time and need to shorten the process, we recommend that after Step Four, you simply use Bumble and Bumble Curl Conscious Curling Foam to scrunch your hair and then go. You will probably end up with more of a beach wave look than a ringlet look, but that's okay because beach waves are totally in style!

Lindsey is the sister to thank for the step by step instruction... without her, Alli and I would've been doomed to frizziness.

Enjoy your new 'do!
