Waking Up Is Hard To Do...

It's been said that you can't buy happiness... but I think buying Starbucks in the morning comes pretty close.

It is not even 10 am and I have worked out, (yaaaay 6 am crossfit!) made breakfast, showered, got my 2 year old nephew out of bed, drove through Starbucks (the baristas know me = life goal accomplished) and made it to work.

Phewf. How do adults do this every day?

I seriously admire women who have children, yet still make time for other things in life, like work and working out. I can barely handle myself in the morning, much less myself + children.

Since graduating college, I am trying to get the work/life balance thing down. I'm also not a morning person, but over the last year, I've perfected my morning routine. Here are a few of my tips for surviving the am's.

  • Set multiple alarms. This is great for the mornings that your sheets grow arms and trap you. Bonus points for setting your alarms to a song that will actually get you out of bed. (I suggest "Move Shake Drop")
  • If you can get into bed early enough the night before, get your workout over with in the morning! Your to-do list will pile on as the day goes, and your motivation for working off those love handles will slowly slip away. Our favorite kind of workout is crossfit
  • Make a quick breakfast that will help you power through the day: protein shake with chocolate protein powder, a banana, almond butter, and almond milk.
  • Read a Proverb. There are 31 Proverbs! Perfect for one a day the entire month. Everyone could use a little bit of wisdom.
  • For a mid-morning snack, bring an apple and a boiled egg. Sugar and protein- a nice pick-me-up.
  • On the way to work, drive through Starbucks. Because every morning is made better by an Americano. Bonus points for picking up an extra for your co-worker. You never know when you might need a favor. It wouldn't hurt to start sowing seeds now.

  • How do you survive the mornings? What are your tips for a good work/life balance? We'd love to hear!
