Desk Essentials

From Where I Stand (or... sit.)

Have you seen those instagram pictures tagged #fromwhereistand? They are usually interesting shots from wherever the person happens to be at that moment. Well, a lot of my moments throughout the day are spent at my desk, and these are the things I see and use every day.

My theory is that if you're going to use something most days, you should like it, and if you're going to see something most days, it should be pretty. Hence, my fun desk supplies.

At home, my things are sort of scattered, occasionally with some sense of organization. I don't often make to do lists, and leave most of the scheduling up to my husband who actually enjoys scheduling. But at work, I can't afford to be so haphazard. I have to make to-do lists and I have to have some sort of schedule.

That is where the desk supplies come in. I use my Today is the Day pad for my daily lists, my desk calendar for an overview of my week, and I use my green Moleskine to take notes in meetings, and to brainstorm. And when writing those things, I use a variety of pens and highlighters found in my lovely pen box, hand crafted by my fabulous cousin Jeni. It's Cinderella themed and I love it.

Since, like I said, in my other life I am not really organized, and schedules do not come naturally to me, I've had to work at it. This is the kind of system I've developed.

What do you do to stay on top of things? Are there any fun things you keep on your desk to help you?

The papergoods on my desk were purchased over a year ago, and are sadly sold out. But, on the off chance you need some pretty things on your desk, I've rounded up some similar items.

  • If you'd like your own Moleskine, you can find one at Target here.
  • Or if you'd like a slightly heftier journal, this leather journal from anthropologie with the pocket could be really handy. And it's pretty.
  • If you need a weekly desk calendar, anthropologie has a really cute one from Rifle Paper Co!
  • If you're looking for sticky notes, you can find them here at Galison, a store at which, by the way, has amazing desk supplies. They are out of initial notes, but they have several other options!

But if you need a pretty pen box... you'll have to get your own cousin Jeni. Or maybe if you're feeling crafty, you can make one yourself. Truly, having something so thoughtfully hand made on my desk adds a great personal touch.

My theory is that while work is still definitely work, (that was articulate, huh?) at least the supplies can be pretty.

We've made it to the middle of the week Brave Ones! Almost there.

Much love,
xo The Attic
