It's All in the Details (part 2)

And The Celebration Begins!

This is the inside of our church. We got married at First United Methodist. It was lovely. The inside of the church was already so beautiful, we didn't even need to decorate much.

Our wedding colors were pink and green. For the aisle decorations, the florist tied up greenery with ribbons.

The altar was also lovely and required little decor. All we used were arched candelabras. They framed the ceremony nicely.

It was important to Jon and I to have our families involved in the ceremony. Our parents were our first, and best examples of a healthy, Godly marriage, and they have always been intentional about loving and building our family.

My (and now Jon's) brother-in-laws were ushers, my sisters and Jon's (and now mine as well) sister were bridesmaids, our mothers were our scripture readers, and Jon's dad led us in communion.

One of my favorite parts of the ceremony was taking communion with our parents. It was an amazing moment. Jon served me communion, for the first time, as my husband.

And now for reception details...

Wildwood designed and built these trellises for us, and my mother's friends decorated it. I told them that I wanted it to seem like trees, draped in greenery and flowers framing the dance floor. They did an amazing job. It truly transformed the ballroom and made the night feel magical.

The table decoration were even better than my mother and I envisioned. We wanted it to seem like the candles were coming out of the flowers and greenery. The difficult part about our vision was that we envisioned gold candlabras and candleholders, and we could only find silver. So what did we do? What any other party planner would do- we ordered several different styles and colors of candle holders as cheaply as possible from Amazon, and then we spray painted them.

We loved the way it turned out! We even had people ask us afterwards if they could rent them from us.

The table cards were so fun! They matched all of other paperies perfectly. Each had our rose motif in the background, the table number and a fun fact about Jon and me. We loved them so much, that we have one of them framed in our apartment. It makes me smile every time I see it.

We rented our linens from Party Pro in Tulsa. The table cloths were green, and the overlay was pale pink with pink and gold stitched design. The napkins were pink. Isn't the fold fun? We wanted the salads to already be plated when the guests arrived, which meant the napkins had to go above the plates. We did that so the ceremony would flow smoothly into the reception without a lot of lag time for the guests.

We had a mixture of round and rectangular tables in order to make the most of the space in the ballroom.

Our chair were a natural wood chevari. These helped add to the garden feel.

I loved the set up of the tables.

Our cake was lovely and even better than I envision. I showed our baker- Icing on the Top several pictures and showed them the different elements I liked. They totally caught my vision. It was beautiful, but not overdone. The details were lovely, but not overwhelming. And I loved having our initials down the side instead of a traditional cake topper!

The table cloth for the cake table was hand painted by my fabulous Aunt Karen. The tradition was established my sisters. Aunt Karen hand painted both Lindsey and Alli's aisle runners with their wedding flowers and their scripture, and then my mother had it made into the bedding for their first child's bassinet.

First United Methodist would not let us have an aisle runner because of the tile floor, so Aunt Karen created this lovely table cloth instead. It is stunningly beautiful. I am in awe. And I'm also excited for its future purpose as well!

Our toasting glasses are from Mark and Graham. I don't know if you can see it, but both of the glasses bear my new initial- a W. The glasses are simple, classy and lovely- just like most of things Mark and Graham sells. If you are into monograms- that is the place to shop!

We ordered our cake knife and serve on Etsy. Before I thought to look there, I hadn't found any that I loved. These were exactly what I was looking for- pretty and not at all cheesy. They have little leaves on them, which went with the garden feel of the reception.

We had an AMAZING dessert bar! Creme Brules, Cannolis, fruit parfaits, and chocolate and peanut butter mouse shots. So tasty! We also had an ice cream bar. There was a line all night.

Our grooms cake was perfect! Sugarica designed the cake after K-West, the Kanakuk Kamp where Jon and I met. We were both counselors of cabin 3. I was sure that I was not going to date a boy I met at kamp... and look where I am now. I married him!

Our name cards were a little bit of a DIY project. Luckily, my mother, my friends, and my mother's friends all came together to make it happen. The cards were perfect. They matched all of the other paperies and looked lovely. (instead of token, like name cards sometimes can.)

The bridal party did a dance together, and it was SO MUCH FUN! For part of our bachelor and bachelorette parties, we met up at a dance studio and the lovely Courtney Graham taught us a dance. We laughed a lot. The girls forgot at least of it (whoops! Should've practiced more!) and the guys looked AMAZING. I loved it. I felt like it was straight out of Step Up.

We left in a shower of rose petals- the perfect ending to the perfect night.

What a great day to start the next chapter of the rest of our lives!

(And let me tell you, so far, it's my favorite chapter yet!)

Happy Thursday Loves.

  1. So pretty! What were some of the facts that you listed on your tables? I love that idea!

  2. Ah thanks! Um, let's see. We listed how we met, funny facts about being long distance, our first date... mostly just things about us or milestones in our relationship.

One of them was that during the first summer we worked at a summer camp together, we ran into each other all. of. the. time. I thought it was coincidence. He planned it.

That was a fun fact to share because people that know me, know that I can be oblivious, and people that know him, know that he is a major planner. :)
