Best Day of My Life

My wedding day was absolutely magical. It was everything I had dreamed of since I was twelve and first thought of color schemes and charger plates.

Jon's family and my family both love to celebrate. So naturally, when we were planning our wedding, our first thought was that we wanted it to be a big celebration with all of our closest family and friends, celebrating what God has done in our lives and what He will continue to do in our lives in the next phase as husband and wife. And it was! The ceremony was beautiful and special. The reception was gorgeous and fun! We both love to dance and I think our reception was one of the best dance parties ever.

I thought I'd share some pictures with you, so even if you couldn't make it, you can still appreciate its beauty!

We were married in this church- First United Methodist. Isn't it lovely?

Seriously, totally breath-taking.

All the girls got ready in monogramed button downs. The bridesmaids had pink button downs with a green monogram, and my button down was white with my new initials in pink!

I loved my dress. LOVED it. It was everything I wanted- it had gorgeous lace that matched the veil, it flared nicely when I danced, and I felt beautiful in it. The name of the dress is "Poppy" designed by Matthew Christopher. He makes sumptuously gorgeous dresses, and he sews "The greatest of these is Love" into every single one.

Interestingly, my dad is the one who helped me decide which dress to get. I had narrowed it down to three and he helped me choose. (It was my mother's favorite all along, but she was trying to remain impartial.)

He picked the right dress.

The veil I wore was hand sewn by my grandmother. She made it for my mother and Lindsey and I both wore it for our weddings as well. The cathedral style length with the lace made me feel like royalty.

As did the church. Check out that gorgeous stained glass!

Yes, we had huge wedding parties. So many wonderful friends... we wanted to include them all!  Between life long friends, high school best friends, college roommates, and sisters, our numbers kept growing. I had ten bridesmaids and seven house party girls.

I found out that not everyone has an official "House Party." I thought that was like, a thing. Apparently not everyone grew up with that tradition. House Party helps with things like the guest book, the gift table, programs, etc. Basically, it is another fun way to include people you love in your celebration! I love these girls and could not imagine my day without them.

Don't the men look dapper in their suits? We bucked tradition a little bit and had the groom wear a tux and the groomsmen wear suits. Why? Because we figured that if the guys were going to be paying for their outfit, they should be able to keep it! And we liked the look of it. The ties are awesome too, huh? Hitsman designed them for us to match the dress. You can't see it in this picture, but they have tiny white dots on them. The looked amazing. Even little baby Jay got one!

Aren't my little flower girls the sweetest? The little bundle of joy in my lap is Eleanor, my precious niece. The two beside me are my little cousins- Lily and Rose. Lily was the official flower girl, as she is the only one that could make it down the aisle.

She confidently told me and Jon during the rehearsal, "You picked the RIGHT girl." We couldn't agree more Lily!

Our reception was magical. The trellis, the flowers, the candles- all of it was wonderful. Dancing in the Mayo ballroom made me feel like Cinderella!

The wedding party did a dance together. It was so fun learning it together- lots of laughs that night. The girls forgot half of the dance... whoops!... and the guys looked awesome. I loved it! Really, the whole thing felt like it was straight out of Step Up!

The dance floor was packed all night. Crazy thing is, we even asked for a bigger dance floor than the Mayo usually does! They hesitated... "Are you sure? If not many people dance, it might be a little bit awkward." Nope. Not a problem for the Wielenga or Fisher family. We danced all night!

It helped that the band was awesome. If you need a band and you live in the Oklahoma/Texas area- check out the Time Machine from Dallas, Texas. They were amazing. There were times that you could not tell if they were playing the song, or the dj was playing the original. They were that good.

All and all, it was a magical night.

But, want to know something even more exciting than that night?

It was just the beginning. I get to spend the rest of my life with him.

We have now been married for a month and three weeks. I've loved every minute of it!

By the way- in the next few posts, I'll show you some of the details and decorations of the wedding, just in case you are planning or dreaming of your wedding and need some inspiration.

I hope your days are filled with magic!
